Xinnor and OSNexus announced a joint solution combining Xinnor’s xiRAID software-defined RAID technology with OSNexus’s QuantaStor 6.7 storage management platform, delivering a new standard of resilience for organizations running multi-site Ceph clusters.

Xinnor xiRAID is a proven data protection solution with a strong track record in high-performance computing environments, where it has long been a trusted choice for Lustre and GPFS deployments. Thanks to OSNexus’s QuantaStor platform, xiRAID is now available to Ceph users for the first time, bringing the same battle-tested durability that HPC storage teams rely on to one of the world’s most widely deployed open-source storage systems.

The solution addresses a critical but often overlooked vulnerability in conventional multi-site Ceph architectures. While a three-site Ceph deployment with replica=3 is widely considered best practice, it leaves clusters exposed to cascading failures: when a site goes offline, the effective replication factor drops to 2, meaning a single additional disk failure on a surviving node can halt I/O and render data inaccessible. Xinnor xiRAID eliminates this risk by aggregating physical drives at the node level into high-performance RAID logical devices, which Ceph consumes as OSDs. Multiple simultaneous drive failures are absorbed transparently at the RAID layer: Ceph never sees a problem, and the cluster remains fully operational.

With the release of QuantaStor 6.7, OSNexus has integrated full xiRAID lifecycle management directly into its platform. Storage teams can now create, monitor, and manage xiRAID RAID groups from the QuantaStor web UI, API, or CLI — without any additional tooling or context switching. Proactive alerting ensures that drive replacements happen on a planned schedule, not in response to a crisis.

Together, the two technologies form a complete, operationally straightforward solution for enterprises that need their Ceph infrastructure to survive not just single failures, but the compound, real-world failure scenarios that large-scale deployments inevitably encounter.

“Multi-site Ceph deployments are only as strong as their weakest link, and for years that weak link has been the gap between surviving a site outage and surviving everything that comes after it,” said Steven Umbehocker, CEO of OSNexus. “With QuantaStor 6.7 and native xiRAID integration, we’ve closed that gap. Customers get a fully managed, enterprise-grade solution without added complexity — and that’s exactly what mission-critical storage demands.”

“xiRAID was built to make storage infrastructure genuinely resilient at the hardware level, and Ceph is one of the most important platforms in the enterprise storage world today,” said Dmitry Livshits, CEO of Xinnor. “Our collaboration with OSNexus brings xiRAID’s durability capabilities to Ceph users in the most integrated, accessible way possible. This is what a joint solution should look like.”
